No reason to add a defender unless Cole is moved. Next years D is set pretty well as is. So adding anyone could be a bad rental.

I wonder what PIT would offer for him being a rental. I would say that a 1st would be too much, but then again the going rate for a top 4 defense man has never been so high.

The idea of adding Dan Hamhuis isn't bad in theory, but several things at play here. He's a solid middle pairing defenseman. I was gung-ho about adding him before we got Daley and Daley ended up having the effect I expected from Hamhuis. While it wouldn't be bad to add Hamhuis, people need to keep in mind he's not a game breaker and isn't an urgent need anymore. Therefore we shouldn't be willing to open up the check book for him. However, if Benning is as dumb as he seems and is willing to just kind of give him away for say Cole and a pick, then that's great. We'd then have three capable middle pairing guys on our roster and we'd finally have the ability to safely bench Lovejoy or DP if DP doesn't settle in. He and Dumoulin would be able to form a puck moving shut down pair and the bottom pairing of Daley and DP/Lovejoy would be more than adequate for bottom pairing minutes.

Long story short: if it's cheap then yes. If it's expensive then no.
